A Guide to Planning Your Bathroom Remodel

A Guide to Planning Your Bathroom Remodel

No matter what kind of home remodeling you’re doing, you always want to make sure you have a strong plan in mind, especially if you plan to upgrade your bathroom vanity. That’s especially true when it comes to a bathroom remodel, where it is very easy for that dream bathroom to turn into a nightmare. Here are some critical steps you need to follow before you begin that remodel:

Draw It Up

You don’t need to be Picasso to draw up some rough schematics for bathroom remodeling (and to be fair, Picasso would probably make a really weird bathroom design anyway). If this is a new addition, think about space, how it will change not only the area but the floor and your entire home. Give yourself good size and space expectations so that when you go to an architect, you already have a clear picture in your mind. You wouldn't want to order a bathroom vanity and realize that it's too big or too small for your bathroom.

Learn From Others’ Mistakes

There’s no better way to begin gauging your expectations and getting a good sense of whether or not your idea is a good one than to see what others in your situation have done. If you don’t know anyone who has done home remodeling, then look online for case studies and recorded projects. Ask around in forums or social media and get feedback from those who have been there.

Look Down The Road

Will you still be living in the house five, ten years from now? If you think you’ll be selling sooner than later, consider what your changes will do to the price and value of your home. You might be adding too much, or worse, devaluing your home.

Not to mention that these home remodeling changes better make the experience of your house positive for those who live there down the road. Will the number of people in your house change in coming years and, if so, is this worth it?

Make Sure About Money

Don’t make assumptions when it comes to costs. If things go bad during the remodel, do you have enough money to make the best of it? If your dream tiles or ceramics aren’t available, can you afford to make a change? Always budget for various scenarios.
